Ashley Galindez Interview | Respect the Artist

This interview was curated by START Shows

How did you get your Artist name?

My name is Ashley Galindez. Noemi Studios is my studio name. Noemi being my middle name is the reason I chose Noemi Studios. Some call me Ashley and some call me Noemi.

How did you get into creating?

Ever since I was a little girl, creating has been a natural part of who I am. I spent much of my time alone, and in those quiet moments I found comfort and joy in drawing and coloring. What started as a way to pass time quickly became a form of expression, a space where I could imagine freely. Those early experiences shaped my love for creating and laid the foundation for the artist I continue to grow into today.

Where are you from?

West Palm Beach, Florida

How did growing up in your neighborhood/city affect you?

The lack of art and creativity in my city is part of the reason I seek inspiration outside of where I live.

What did you do to advance your skills/knowledge?

As a child, I spent countless hours drawing, always eager to improve my skills. My grandfather encouraged that passion by buying me professional drawing books at a young age, I remember coming home from school excited to master my drawing using those books. I used them as references, carefully tracing the images to understand shapes, lines, and form. Through that process, I taught myself how to draw.

What does your current setup look like?

Currently I work from my apartment. I have a space dedicated to my work where all of my paints, brushes and canvases stay. I own an established anime shop as well so I share that space will all of my shop necessities such as printers, packing supplies and lots of anime merch. My space is not very organized or big but it’s cozy and it works for me.

Who inspires you?

Honestly.. I don’t necessarily have one person who inspires me; instead, my greatest inspiration comes from within. Everything I’ve been through has shaped my perspective and pushed me to grow, learn, and keep creating. My desire to be my best motivates me enough, turning my experiences into drive and self-inspiration.

What is your goal when you create?

When I create, my main goal is to make what truly makes me happy. Art is a personal and honest process for me, guided by my emotions rather than expectations or rules. Creating brings me peace, fulfillment, and a sense of freedom, allowing me to express myself authentically.

Why do you create?

I create for a better planet. My experiences working with wildlife as a wildlife rehabbed in the past where I live has deeply shaped who I am and why I created Noemi Studios. Being so close to wild animals showed me the beauty, fragility, and importance of protecting the natural world and that connection fuels my creativity. Art became my way of giving back. when I profit from my work, that money is shared toward making a real difference, supporting the planet and the wildlife that inspired me to create in the first place

How has choosing your creative path affected your life?

Choosing my creative path has given my life purpose. It has given me the freedom I needed for a long time. It’s the only thing I am good at (I think) Through creativity, I’ve found a sense of fulfillment, independence, and responsibility. Not only to myself, but to the world I want to positively impact

Did you have to overcome any obstacles along the way?

Yes, many.. and I still do. I’ve faced many obstacles that challenged both my confidence and commitment to my creative path. Learning to share my work online required building self-belief and overcoming the fear of being seen and judged. Taking risks became a daily practice, especially as everyday life often got in the way, demanding time, energy, and focus. But once I put myself out there I stopped caring about what other may think and put my creative path first for me.

What's your go-to song right now and why is it important to you?

Honestly no go to songs at the moment my rock playlist stays on shuffle :)

What is your dream as an artist and what steps are you taking to reach your dream?

As I’ve said before my dream is to share the importance of our natural world and as an artist I will continue to create to express that and reach this dream of helping other understand it’s importance because I don’t believe many people truly understand and that’s okay. On a personal level I just want to be happy, I want peace and creating has given me that so far and I’m grateful.

What would you tell someone else with a dream?

Don’t let anyone tell you what’s best for you, and never allow others to stop you from pursuing what you truly want. As corny as it may sound, believing in yourself is the real key to how successful you can be. If you can’t believe in you, how can you expect anyone else to?

Tell us about your most recent release

My most recent release is my Electric collection which can be found on my website. This collection was an experiment that I had a lot of fun doing. I just wanted to create something without any thinking and I did. There’s really no meaning behind it besides the fact that I had fun doing it.
