Ajax Beats is Not like the other kids

2-1.jpeg

As a young man growing up in bed stuy brooklyn I was never like the other kids.  I never hung outside and never got into anto any trouble with the police.  Mostly because my Grandmother (Louise Coy) had big community ties.  I had my Slacking times in high school (Boys & Girls High) but I still managed to graduate on time thanks to night school and a hard nosed Football Coach (Ron Adams).  I Worked a summer job then went straight to college (SUNY Canton) .  Even in college  I wasn't like the other kids from brooklyn I needed to experience new things.  My first semester I joined the college radio station WATC 107.3 and pledged A Fraternity (Delta Kappa Sigma).  The pledging process taught me perseverance , patience and how to mentally block things out to find my happy place to accomplish tasks.  I still have long lasting friendships and still use these practices in my everyday life.  I wanted to make music not for the financial gain but for the artistic expression.  Early on I said to my self as long as i have a roof over my head and food in my stomach ill keep creating my art.  I eventually linked up with the right team (GTM Records) and started to learn the Music Distribution game.  We started selling Mix Tapes Hand To Hand and eventually went into wholesaling to shops and record stores.  I met the founder Of GTM Records Ruben "Sinn" Townsley while I was in training At UPS.  We had a good 2 year run but I felt I needed to be around the creative side of the Biz So I linked up with William "Jae D" Brown of BGS and we started building a pre production / recording studio In Breevoort Projects.  We ended up going to Miami memorial day weekend of 2006 with 2000 mix tapes.  I walked up and down collins ave for those 4 days giving all those cds out.  Still knowing I wasn't like most people down there for the fun of south beach.  Fast forwarding to 2008 - 2009 i was working a crappy job traveling 4 hours a day ( 2 Hours each way) from the last stop on the 2 train in brooklyn to the last stop on the 1 train in damn near yonkers.

I managed my time by making beats on my laptop on that long train ride.  I did that for about 6 months until the recession hit.  I got laid off and started to receive unemployment.  I pretty much invested that money into My Music Information Technology Biz and networking in the Rave and Drum Bass Community.  I would perform my networking tasks during the day and do my networking at night still creating music while traveling by subway.  I met my Rave Guide JP "White Owl" Steinberg who took me to my first rave and reconnected me with the Jungle DNB Scene through Konkrete Jungle Nyc.  I met the right people and eventually started throwing my own Outlaw Raves With One of my fraternity Brothers Marco Avedian.  A few years after I would become A resident Dj For konkrete Jungle and part owner of NYCRavers.  If someone is looking to use this article as a guide id leave them with this final note ..... Do what you want to do for the love first and the money will surely follow , do not focus on what the masses are doing just try to find a fixture where you will shine the brightest.  Never give up success is not an overnight thing unless you have an insane amount of money lol.  Invest in your self and your craft.  promotion is key.  Never be afraid to try anything new that wont damage your health or mental well being.
