D.Cure - 'Cuz It Bangz 3' Exclusive Interview

D.Cure - Stereotype Co - Interview - Cuz It Bangz 3

We had a chance to kick it with D.Cure fresh off the release of his album 'Cuz It Bangz 3'. He is one artist that constantly delivers. It was only right to get a deeper look into his new project. We hope you enjoy this exclusive interview.

Why did you make this album?

I had such good feedback from the last two ‘Cuz It Bangz’ EPs that I just had to do one more! I also wanted to bring the talents of some of my favorite artists to light.

What inspired the title 'Cuz It Bangz 3'?

The whole concept of ‘Cuz It Bangz’ was to make bangerz. I wanted to have a commercial sound but with meaningful, thought-out lyrics. In the words of a song from the last EP, “I made this Cuz It Bangz”.

What is your goal as an artist?

Ultimately, my goal is to help people. If music is an escape then maybe I can help. If music is a way to relate to the struggle of another person (or an artist) then maybe I can help. I’m a recovering alcoholic and I nearly took my own life a few years ago. I feel like if I share my stories and experiences that maybe I can people out of the dark places I’ve been.

When did you know you wanted to make music?

When I was 16, I remember listening to “Lost Ones” by Lauryn Hill over and over. I would listen to each line, write it down and rewind it up to the beginning of the next line just to memorize lyrics. It was proud of hip-hop but there was another side I wasn’t proud of. I also remember watching a music video on MTV by *unnamed artist* and I thought, “If this can be on tv there’s no reason I can’t be.” I suppose I had something to prove to myself.

Who helped make this album what it is? Writers, Producers, Muses, Support System, Etc

I definitely have my go-to producers but for these projects I tend to look elsewhere to get a different sound. I used Sean Ross, Bravo Beats, Insane Beatz and Tellingbeatzz for the production. Tellingbeatzz has been a go-to for a while and Sean Ross is becoming one. I featured many awesome emcees on this project to include: Ekspan, Think 2wice, Devon Lee, MCRE, Topher, Chris Romero, Lou Slugga, Mikey Bonez, Ugly Cuzzin, Jace the Truth, Codeen, Dirty Needles, K. David & Arden DeCuir. Everyone on this list is incredibly talented and I hope to bring a few more eyes and ears to their pages and music collections. The person who did the most work on this project is my little brother Arden. He has been mixing & mastering my music for a couple years now and he really had a great ear. You can hear him singing on the last track titled ‘Overcome’. My biggest support is my wife, Erin, who believes in everything I do and understands how much time it takes to make music.

What is your favorite track? Why?

Usually, I could answer this question but I spent so much time making sure each song was great that I could never decide. Some days I prefer one song over another but all of them have been stuck in my head at different times.

Have you ever been Stereotype'd? Tell us more.

The usual stereotype for a white rapper is that I sound like Eminem. I’ve also been called Slug and Sage Francis. I find all these artists to be talented so I’m okay with it. I just wonder if it makes people more comfortable to have someone to compare me to...

Have you ever broke a Stereotype someone had of you? Tell us about it.

Just about everyone I’ve ever told I was a hip-hop artist has just rolled their eyes at me and said “sure, dude”. It’s nice to see their surprise when they hear my music. In all fairness, a lot people claim to be artists and really aren’t all that so who am I to blame them? Actions speak louder than words.

If you could do remix to one song on the album and anyone as your guest feature, what song what it would be and who would you have on it?

I’ve been big into NF recently. I would probably remix ‘Overcome’ and have him on it.

What are words of advice to having a beard as epic as yours?

Haha! Thank you. All it takes is time, patience and product. Wash your beard, put some good oil in it and take care of it! Just like anything in this world, if you want it to stand out it takes a lot more work than others are willing to do.

What is your dream now that you just accomplished this dream?

I dream of better music. I’ve been thinking of stepping away from hip-hop for a little while to try other things out. My wife and I are also starting a clothing company so that’s another dream is getting that machine going.

What is the best words of advice you have ever received?

Not really advice but I’ve taken these words with me everywhere:

“What people think about you is none of your business.”

People get so wrapped up in what people think about them. Let people worry about, judge, place you all they want. It’s their thoughts and all you need to focus on is your own (because you can only change those)!
