Lupe Dragon ' | Respect The Artist interview

How did you get your Artist name?

This is my real name

How did you get into creating?

I always loved music, I started officially writing my song music when I was 15 or 16 and got into a studio for the first time when I was 18 going on 19 transferring colleges and moving back home. I started writing brand new songs working at my current job and it went from there when I met my engineer Matt Filipek.

Where are you from?

New Jersey!

What did you do to advance your skills/knowledge?

Definitely learning online and from friends. Also my engineer Matt is super awesome and is great with answering questions that I want answers to about producing and sound etc.

What does your current setup look like?

I just bought a condenser microphone, an isolation shield, pop filter, mic stand, and logic pro x! haha, my engineer isn't comfortable meeting up with people during quarantine yet so I am recording at home at the moment.

Who inspires you?

Lots of artists/bands. Primarily Ed Sheeran, Halsey, Andrew McMahon, Dashboard Confessional, etc. I have a lot of punk influences but i'm also influenced by conscious hip-hop/rap artists like Watsky, Kid Cudi and Logic and am also inspired by lo-fi "bedroom pop" artists like Alec Benjamin, Jeremy Zucker and ROLE MODEL. The list goes on, everyone inspires me a bit.

What is your goal when you create?

To captivate how i'm feeling and being able to have someone else relate to it. Even if someone can't relate to how I feel, if they can hear the message loud and clear or hear the story loud and clear, I did my job right.

What's your go-to song right now?

Right now my go to song has been Paper Crown by Alec Benjamin. The production on the song really gets me a lot. Been listening to a lot of songs I used to listen to in high school during quarantine and reminiscing!

What is your dream as an artist?

To be able to go on tour and meet people who connect with my music and lyrics.

What is some advice you would give to someone with a dream?

Don't give up. Like. Ever. NEVER EVER EVER!

Tell us about your most recent release

I have a new song called "Happiness". Spoiler alert.. its not a happy song. It's a song about being in a toxic relationship with someone that literally takes all the happiness out of you. They expect you to tear down your walls and tear yourself apart and to fix them so they feel better.
